About

A self-described Powerpuff girl from New York City, Benna has carved a remarkable life for herself as an infectious and versatile singer-songwriter. The fact that she is quite impressionable lends itself to a style that is all-encompassing. It’s a slippery slope from simple acoustic to melodic pop-rock, through punk and folk all the way down to the depths of the unknown beat-box. The girl is not content committing herself to one single way of engaging with the world via her music.

Since the 1990’s, Benna has released several recordings: Tunnel Tunes in 1994 (experimental, playful, acoustic); Greetings From Port Authority in 1996 (indie-rock inspired); and What’s Meant To Be in 2003 (lush, acoustic pop-rock). Many of the songs have been featured on soundtracks for shows on MTV, VH-1 and MyNetwork as well as indie films.

Though sometimes difficult to reconcile her extreme sides, its that dynamic playful intensity Benna brings to every show that ultimately defines her as an artist. As she’s toured the country, Benna has made friends and fans wherever she plays,  gaining a greater appreciation for life outside NYC. Each new town is like a world unto itself, leaving a lasting impression and providing plenty of fuel for her next set of songs.

While she’s not terribly prolific, this certainly ensures that Benna is no hack. As time goes by, her observations of the world shift along with it–sometimes gently, other times abruptly, but always in the most fascinating ways. To Benna, it feels most comfortable being at the mercy of the world around her, forever poised to receive the ideas that would become songs.
